Andy's Apple Farm is a 2021 horror game by Logan West (M36 Games) that presents itself as a bright, cheerful retro educational title. You're immediately taught letters, numbers, and farm facts by friendly animal characters. Then the cracks begin to show — the animals start behaving erratically, the cheerful music distorts, and a dark story underneath the pastoral surface begins revealing itself layer by layer.
Why It's Effective
The game deliberately mimics the aesthetic of 1990s educational software, right down to the pixel art, MIDI music, and simple click-to-interact design. That familiarity is what makes the horror land — the wrongness cuts deeper because it started so innocent. It's a short game best experienced in one sitting, ideally without knowing anything beyond "there are multiple endings."
