A Handcrafted Sky-World to Explore
Amidst the Sky is an indie Metroidvania platformer created by Casper van Dommelen (Ferociter) in GameMaker Studio and released in 2019. Set in a floating world of clouds and ancient ruins, the game emphasizes fluid movement — wall jumps, dashes, and air control — as you unlock new abilities that open previously inaccessible areas of the interconnected map. The hand-drawn art style gives it a distinctly personal quality absent from most browser games.
How to Play
Use the arrow keys or WASD to move and jump, with ability-specific buttons for dashes and special moves unlocked during play. The world is non-linear: you'll frequently encounter paths you can't yet access, which become traversable once you find the right ability. Defeated enemies drop currency used to upgrade your character at rest points.
